APRS – and Ham Software

I am breaking in some new stuff (for me).  When I decided to jump back in on this – I also decided to try out the AGW software… I had thought about it 6 ot 7 years ago but just never got to it…

This time I started out with the AGWPE… that went pretty smooth but there really is not much in the way of documentation on setting it up… if I have to do it several more times I think I will write a help file – maybe a step by step and this is what it will look like…

Once that was working , at least I thought so… I moved on to the AGWuidigi and AGWterm, and AGW,monitor… all free programs that you can find here:  www.sv2agw.com  look for the stuff under HAM…

I also have tried the cost based stuff like the PE Pro – and bought that.  I like it as it contains several things from the Monitor and makes some setups a lot more easy for things… I have tried the AGWcluster and AGWtracker… both pretty neat programs and I have not determined if they are worth the purchase yet… the digi works real good and once I figured out that the filters are not additive but replacement I dropped it down to monitor just what I want to know about (more local than world wide) when you connect it to the servers…

With the AGWtracker I can transmit my weatherstation text – but wonder if something else might do that with out the overhead?  still testing on that one until I can get a better grip on it.

I am impressed by this software… pretty stable (when the computer is stable) and does a pretty good job of working the digi , etc and in reality they are pretty easy to set up.  I have talked to several that the UIVIEW is somewhat complicated to get running but does a great job once you figure out the details of setup… AGW is similar but I think may be a bit easier as I reset it all on a laptop in under 2 hours (AGWPE,AGWuidigi, AGWtracker, Virutual Weather STation, links to internet servers, web pages, etc… and had to deal with serial to usb conversions for two of those hookups… so a few more times… and it will be easier…

I still have a lot to play with and get working – next up – the RigBlaster Plus I have owned for 7 years and intended to play with all those HF digital modes… but hey, I have to get some wires up for antennnas first… that will come this winter as I spend more time inside the shop than outside…
