I should not complain about the highway department fixing up the roads… it is obvious that they need it but Geez there has to be a better way?
Today we left Stillwater at about 1pm. things were ok through OKC a notorious gridlock at the interchange of I-35 and I-40 but not too bad… just backed up for a mile. We hit some slowing getting through Snoreman… and it looked like things would be great. but about 6 miles north of Pauls Valley the signs of repair were flashing again… … oh boy…
A rant – I hate those people that even with the warning – they go flashing down the “closed lane side” as fast as they can to get to the front of the line and force in ahead of the “polite” law-abiding drivers. Some even race down the apron to get ahead…
anyway… the sign said construction 4 miles yet but we were dead stopped… enough so that I could pull up the phone and tweet that it was gridlock… it took about an hour to make that 4 miles… another problem is that at the Pauls Valley exit – many were jumping off, flashing down the ramp, crossing an getting back on – again ahead of those staying on I-35 along with anyone that had legitimate reason to get off… “pit stop”… but that caused even more delay as all the main traffic had to stop to either let them in or force a disagreement with them – do not disagree with a 18 wheeler…
Anyway we got through that one and it was now after 4pm and we were not yet to the Duncan/.Sulphur exit… guess what… another stretch of construction at Ardmore… but that one moved a bit faster and we made it to Texas… what normally takes 4 hours took 5+… but the one hour was moving 3 miles? I guess I should have researched the route some and determined that I should take the HWY 177 route south to the state line… ? Oh well… at least the traffic going North was moving smoothly… never saw that side stopped for anything – they slowed but not stop?
So much fun I will need a few days to get an attitude adjustment so I can driver back.
Of note I had both the VX8R running APRS and the new phone using APRSdroid… the radio did a better job of tracking? the droid must have been loosing cell towers or something s it had big holes in the track… look for your self track wd0ajg-7 (VX8R) or wd0ajg-9 (the droid)… (note to self, slow down the updates from the VX8R… wish it was the VX8DR…
One more observation – there were a lot of RV people out moving in both directions… wish I had been one.
