I remember that old saying about “he’s been around the block” or “don’t try to fool me I have been around the block”. Well when I was younger I thought that refered to the fact that they knew all that stuff already or one of those “been there – done that” type things.
Now, as I pass through middle age I am starting to wonder if maybe it meant “they can’t remember why they started around the block… or worse yet, they can’t remember which house is theirs?
I think having been “around the block” just wears most of us out. I know I am wearing down but I can still remember those things that allow me to profess, ” I have been around the block”.
At some point in the future I will wish I had not been “around the block” so many times. In fact I am already at that point. It may also be possible that I will wonder “what is a block” and why was I going around it? I just don’t want to lose site of the fact where home is and I need to be getting there pretty soon.
Something to think about ? or not?
