A day in the life

Yea, my life, boooorrrrring… but was really nice to not be out in a motel somewhere…

I was not moving too fast today , got up about 7:30 and did some morning reading… had several things in the reading list that were pretty good.  I have my Google reader set to run the favorite Ham Radio blogs, some Investing blogs and the RV life blogs.  I track a lot of stuff that way.  Once I got through most of that I had to get the rent car delivered.  I have started getting a rent car in OKC when I come in from the short trips.  It is about the same as having someone come pick me up in costs so I have opted for that as the company has a deal set for “one-way” rent cars.

I got that delivered and checked in and then off to breakfast.  Yes, a late one but it is my weekend so I can pick my times.  We stopped at the same old place “shortcakes diner”.  I had the Western Omelet as usual.  Not too bad for a combo breakfast+lunch meal.

Our next stop was the sponsored “Jingle Bells Sweepstakes”.  They hold this at the High School football field.  I remember last year it was cloudy, cold, wet, and miserable and there were just as many people there last year as this or was it there were fewer this year than last?  Just didn’t seem to have the same excitement this year?  There also seemed to be a lot more give-aways last year?  It was a bit short this year and very little “in the stands” activities compared?  Anyway we didn’t win anything.  I still wonder why we attend these things as we are just not that lucky.

After the sweepstakes “function” we made a short stop at the Fit body place as Sherrie was supposed to have been there at 11am but due to the drag at the drawing and traffic we were way late.. We then made a run for home.

I spent the rest of the afternoon working on my Dads bills, expenses, Medicare statements, comparing and covering to make sure things were coming out ok and working on my tracking to get things worked out.  Real fun stuff all this tracking.  I got some tax estimates set up to pay and various other things done.

Around 4 pm I had a call from a young fell that wanted some antennas I had listed for sale.  He needed them for an addition to some business stuff for his Dad, but he was still in High School and had an interest in Ham Radio and Balloon tracking, etc.  We had a really good discussion about APRS used to track balloons and the possibility of him getting into Ham Radio.  I passed along that the local club gives the tests and the meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month and where to attend.  I hope he gets serious and works on this project.  Anyway he bought the UHF antenna I had and I gave him the 6 meter antenna to go with it.

After all that we decided to have Chinese food for dinner, something we do not do often but was sure glad we did tonight as it was really good and we have plenty for later.  We opted to get our take-out from The Great Wall  on south Western.   I am amazed that we have always gotten really good food there and plenty in the portions.  The flavor was really good tonight.  Maybe we were extra hungry as we had skipped lunch but this sure was good stuff tonight.  Should have gotten a picture of the Mongolian Beef or the Cashew Chicken but when your thinking eating, you not thinking pictures… oh well…

So that was the day… See just excitement so un-controllable that we almost has to take naps… maybe tomorrow I can get my nap in?  – WD0AJG
