Dentist and Memory lane

Well it was another day in the string of days to get stuff done before Christmas.  My accomplishments were not as big as yesterday but seemed just as important.

Since I had to see the dentist at 9:30 AM I skipped breakfast.  I know, get up earlier and you can eat then brush, well I just didn’t feel like it.  I did get up by 7am anyway but was real slow getting around.  We also had the window washing crew in at 9:00 AM.  There is a local “discount” coupon thing here, Pupalup, and I got an email for 1/2 off the first $100 to wash windows.  That sounded like a real good deal to me so I bought one coupon, although it cost $200 to wash all of our windows, inside and out I only paid $150 for that.  We had a local company Schatz Window Washing.  They, The Schatz crew, were promptly here at 9:00 AM and got right to work and did a real good job.  Since I have very high windows that nearly all require a ladder in some way to wash them, it was a really good price.  I will have to have them back in the summer to do it again.    I wish the Pupalup bunch would get a few more deals for Stillwater going.

Once the washers were busy doing there thing I took off for a quick stop at the bank to deposit some checks.  You thought I only went to get money out… Then on to the Dentist.  It was not so bad there, got a good cleaning, and came out ok, no big problems that a bit more work around the implant would not cure.

I got back home in time to see them finish up.  Sherrie found out they were from Blackwell, her home town, so she had a visit with them about what they knew and didn’t know and who.

We had a late breakfast or what ever you can call it, and settled in for a lot of nothing.  I did some reading and checked on some things from way back and came across this add in an old Ham Radio Magazine from my early Ham days… I actually built one of these and it worked pretty good, surprise, surprise.

I carried that to a lot of places and enjoyed the heck out of it.  Note it was only a 5 channel and put out just 1 (one) watt.  Handheld???? the unit I have today is maybe 30% as big, covers 2, 220, 440 and 6m and puts out 5 watts on most as well as unlimited channels, does APRS, hears stuff that old one would never get close to and on and on and on… but technology has dramatically increased since 1977.  That old magazine was filled with memories for me… several things in there that I had and many more that I really thought I had to have but never got.

Later in the day we made a trip into town and back to take care of some other items then after a “left-over” dinner we made it into the OSU Women’s BB game. It was starting to snow a little but still not freezing on the roads or anything so it was not all that bad out.  As far as the game goes,  I can say they played a lot better tonight, although the competition was not all that much, they took care of business.  They were a lot better and never really went into long spells of acting like a bunch of freshmen as they had before.  Impressive win and the “real” freshmen did well.  They are going to have to as you look at the line of Big 12 teams in the top 25 again this year and it will be a tough winter season.

We rushed back home to the warmth there and settled in for the night.  So another day of minor accomplishments, life, entertainment, and memories was put to rest as we fast approach Christmas Day.  Have you got all your shopping done?  I sure hope we do cause it is starting to pinch when I reach for my wallet.  – WD0AJG
