I call BS. Yes this article,
A tale about ham radio, Mitt Romney, Google+, and Twitter
BY DAN KB6NU, ON JANUARY 4TH, 2012
is a retraction of a tweet, about an article that was 6 years old, about a politician “dissing” Ham Radio, then a staffer retracting that position when confronted.
I would contend that Romney may still feel the same as he did 6 years ago when he made the statement. I also contend that even if he doesn’t he is a politician and how much faith can we put in the statements of politicians or even the retractions by politicians staff. To be honest I don’t think that Romney him self ever retracted anything, it was a staffer that made the retraction so who really knows how he feels.
If you remember, Obama was all for change… what change have we really seen, beside a huge increase in our debt structure with no means of paying our way out? Or maybe that we now have less than 50% of the population paying taxes, with many of the other half on a “free-ride”. They vote just like the paying people do so making a change will be near impossible as long as politicians promise everything to those that don’t pay for it they will be elected. The Republicans, not to be on party specific here, at one time were for tax cuts then they were for tax hikes then they were for ????? True we went from a surplus , of sorts, just before JDUB took office and he also lead us to extreme debt but Obama has increased it more in 3 than JDub did in 8… I think that is called compounding? In Washington now the major problem is not Democrats or Republicans. It is that neither is willing to find common ground on anything and work it out. They are just finger pointing and blaming other to divert the view from their own larceny… MHO
I doubt you can find an honest statement in or around any politician when it comes to elections and their political future for the “free-ride”. I am totally against life politicians. Term limits might force a little honesty back into the mess but then again it may force them to try harder to get more out quicker?
Back to the subject at hand, I think the article needs to stay, the Tweet is out there and so what? In todays world you can run with anything as long as it is just a little bit true and in dealing with career politicians, anything you can say bad is probably very close to being true. Ham Radio is a very small population compared to the total. Then divide that by the different political groups that we may each follow (We do not all sway the same way, look at the strong supporters of the various modes like CW, Digital, Phone on 80 or contesting or DX chasers or … you get the picture). Then take away those that are just plain apathetic or hate all politicians (ME), then subtract those that probably won’t vote anyway (although I sure will and it will be against the long term ones in every case) and you do not have many that even care one way or the other. Again these are just my humble opinions (JMHO)… – WD0AJG
