We still use too much fossil based energy here. We are a rich nation due in part to the abundant Natural Resources we have versus the population. Not everyone is rich though and it hurts some more than others when energy or food costs spike up. That all said, I was unaware that we had continued on the downward move to using less of the worlds energy output like the below chart displays. Somehow it didn’t look exactly right so I did a little more search and found that the US still used about the same amount of fossil fuel energy since at least 1980… the difference is that everyone else is using a lot more…
In 1965, the United States dominated world oil consumption. We used 42% of the entire world supply… But our share of global oil consumption is plummeting. Take a look at this chart that shows the percentage from 1965 through 2010…
This is what the total of production looked like in history.. since about 1930 up to current.
It also gives some indication of where the bulk of oil production comes from. It is however showing future predicted production and that is like using palm readers in my opinion..
Now a comparison chart of users.
So…. we still use about the same since 1980 but a lot of the others are using more… some A LOT MORE… What happens when those that have not grown yet demand more? like some parts of Africa or Eurasia, or South and Central America? I think this predicts that the price we all pay will continue to go up… so we need to get ready. – REX
