Living in a Haze?

I guess I am living, rather working, in a zone of haze.  Until yesterday’s article in the USA-today and then notices on twitter and blogs that I read, I was unaware of the proposed SOPA and PIPA protection  legislation against piracy.  The following article is one such comment on the situation that sparked my comments here-

I’m Shocked and Disappointed…

Let me first start off and say that I believe something should be done to protect against piracy and to protect intellectual property (IP).  However, like many of you, I feel the current legislation of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are the wrong way to go about it.  Actually, these are both very dangerous pieces of proposed legislationI encourage everyone to take action.

SOPA Hits the Financial Blogs

Here’s another gem from my friend William Banzai7:

A lot of us are living in the dark about this.  I have to say I agree that we need to stop the piracy but I think we need to stop that spam and some of the other crap that is more costly and more vicious than the piracy issues to the common folks.  I also feel maybe we, as a country and government, need to do a much better job of enforcing the laws we have on the books now.  The continued involvement of our legislators proposing new laws while the over abundant laws on the books that we currently have and no one can or will enforce.  In our own hobby we have serious problems with those that break the laws set forth, and the enforcement is exceedingly slow or not at all.

I agree with the above posts in that we all need to do something.  The issue of new laws that are not well thought out or “could” make things worse are not needed now.  Lets worry about the real issues of unemployment, economic problems, laws that are not being enforced, and other matters that need our attention more.   – WD0AJG
