Hey, I mowed the lawn, trimmed the edges around some spots… all before noon…
I also worked on a little stuff for the company so I can get paid. I should of done more but just was not into it today… I should of gotten stuff ready for the trip out Tuesday but didn’t feel like that either. I did work up the last months income and expense report for my Dads estate. Since I am supposed to I made sure I had notes about all the in and out. I then sat on the back deck for 30 to 40 minutes and watched the humming birds fighting over the feeder. It wasn’t until late today that I realized I was not seeing any or only a very occasional male hummer? I think they always leave out about September 1st. Strange how they can tell time better than we can… Our Hummers are Ruby Throats. From what I read the males leave about 2 weeks ahead of the females. Although in the reading they surmise that the males may start migration as early as July but most wait till September and all the birds you see usually from late August to ? are migrating. One article recommends that you leave the feeders out until freezing is a problem as there are always late migrating birds and once they find feeders they generally will come back…? Anyway this evening all I noticed were females or what appeared to be females or very young birds…
Earlier today I did get this pictures of another of our visitors…
A little hard to tell but I think it was a Kingfisher or close relative… I have seen them around here before but he was way out and I do not have a fancy camera with telephoto so this is all I got… This is what they look like when you get a good picture…
I also spent some time this evening out on the front porch but didn’t get pictures. I noticed that there was a large grouping of doves last night coming into the pond for water and tonight they were flying over the house and to the NE… in groups of 20 to 30 or more… Tomorrow , I think, Dove season opens here in Oklahoma…I used to hunt them… damn hard to hit… or I was damn poor shot?
So that was about the extent of my day, other than chasing off the house sparrows form the fountain out front this evening… They will have to find the evening drink somewhere else… I hate those birds as they attack my blue birds… which I have posted about before…
Tomorrow is the first football game of the year here… we have tickets and will be there tomorrow evening… For some reason the town was pretty full today with the end of the Fair and the first game tomorrow and all… it was pretty jammed up… will be interesting to see what we get into tomorrow…
