Yesterday I was looking in the paper and found 3 coupons for Staples. I guess they wanted to get a jump on Black Friday so they had some special deals for Wednesday… Pretty slick deals too if you knew what you were after. The least of the bunch was a $25 off one item. The best of the bunch was 25% off one single items but it could not be a computer or tablet or any of those special things… Well I have been looking at getting a new Ultra zoom digital camera for some time… about a year… I take a long time to get things… ha! I had looked at the Nikon P500 digital camera with 36X zoom… I have family that got one a some time ago and (actually the previous model) and it took good pictures… But when I was about to get one and they were on sale, Wal-Mart sold out before I got there…. ooops… The next on my list was the Canon SX40 but when Nikon came out with the new model to the 500 – the 510 or something? I figured that Canon would do the same pretty soon. So I waited, figuring it would be the SX50 … Well it was and they just started hitting stores recently… I had seen one and it looked just like the SX40… maybe a little bigger but it would zoom to 50X as opposed to the 35X… At the current price I was set to wait till after xmas to pick one up on sale… Well when the staples coupon came with a 25% off… I jumped on that one as quick as I could… got mine this morning, no lines no black Friday crowds… in fact I don’t think there was anyone else using the paper discounts today as when I got there at 10:30 they guy had to look at it to figure out what it would cover, so they had not seen one yet… The base price for this camera (Canon SX50) is $450 and I walked out for $367 (tax included)… how cool is that?
I got home, charged the battery and did just a few test shots this evening…
No telephoto, looking at the sunset…

Ok, here are three more a little earlier in the day… I will start close up and back out so you can spot the tree…
Tree to the right of the picture… above you can see the rock next to the base! Barely tell it is there in this one..
No zoom and tree is almost in the center. go back up to the one above and spot the tops of the two fence posts??? They are the highest ones in the fence on that dam…
Now that is some zoom!… and pretty clear at that. The only real problem is getting out there… you can’t hold it steady enough so I will have to use the tripod a lot…
Now I have just ordered a few little things – lens filters and lens hood and cleaning kit. Amazing what they can do with these things…
