Today we treated ourselves to a day trip to visit some old places and see a few new things… Since it is near Memorial day visits to several of the “final resting” places was on the list.
First up a run to Enid to visit Mom and Dad and Grandpa and Grandma… Then it just happens it was almost lunch so we had to stop at Lot-a-Burger for one of the great grilled burgers… although I seem to remember they were thicker at one time? place has been in business for 50 years or more… I used to stop at the original one on Grand… back in the day…
As a size reference…
After that it was a stop at Walmart for gas and some more flowers… then off to the big city of Jet…
From here we checked out the mural on Sherrie’s cousins place of business… painted it himself..
There is one on the other side as well.
We then went on to the Salt Plains lake and campground to check it out… some of it was pretty nice… not a great spot but ok… The place that took the most time was the community of Nescatunga… It is an area that was supposed to be a weekender or summer home place but it is pretty run down in most spots… some nice places but most are in real need of repair or upgrade… like the never finished house…
It is a “rambling wreck” of a house that appears to not be lived in at all anymore…
keep in mind that all three of the above photos are one house all linked together? strange to say the least…
One nice new place..
but most of it was old and close places…
Oh and the watch dogs have a better view from the roof…
We then proceeded to another cemetery and then on to Cherokee… and spotted this ornament…
Then on up the road toward Driftwood and the Underground airport… according to my FIL… didn’t spot it for some odd reason?
We whipped on through Burlington and to another Cemetery and got some pictures of family spots there as well… then back south and a detour through Byron, OK…
then to the fish hatchery to see if we could find it… we did… then back south to Jet… which now is known as Timberlake or at least by all the weather men in OK… ? I think there was an old community of Timberlake and the schools now are Timberlake schools for Jet, Nash, Helena and Goltry… which we made it through Helena and spotted this old building in the downtown…
Statehood bank maybe?
On the way out of Helena at the corner south of town… a really nice memorial that we didn’t know was there… surprising what you can find…
By then it was getting late and we hustled on for home… still over an hour away…
