We decided to take a “day trip” today. Didn’t get a real early start but ended up ok. First out for breakfast then gas then head east on 51.
On roadside at the turn… Turned north on highway 99 toward Cleveland.
In the little town of Jennings… old buildings always warrant a picture…
At the west end of Cleveland associated with a museum that did not appear to be open… very often…
On the highway north… one way to use an old bathtub…
In Hominy we had a welcoming party on the hill…
From a map outside the Drummond Home… I think there are a lot of Drummond Homes? anyway you can see “you are here”…
I wanted to explore around Skiatook lake. Hadn’t been there that I can remember and there are a few camp grounds there so we checked all of them out… For the economy minded the Bull Creek Peninsula is the cheapest at $8 per night but there is no Elec, water or dump…There may have been water at the campground entrance but it is a long way around to this one on the NW end of the lake and the level is way down… it did have a boat ramp… to the water…The other two campgrounds were shown full for the holiday weekend and are reserve sites but they do have amenities and are a bit nicer kept… The webpages have videos and other pictures of the sites so I am not putting any here. That took some time getting around all the sites and seeing the lake…
After a tour and lunch in Skiatook we headed out on Highway 11… is said west but we were going north..?
On the road out of Skiatook spotted these guys… not sure who they are waiting for? but they are ugly…
A little further up the road an old Barn that is worth the picture..
We drove on into Barnsdall to look around and found Jack’s Place…
I can remember gas at the price but somewhat after the vintage of that pickup… Nice collection of old gas station stuff…right on the highway…
at the north end of town you got to swerve or turn to miss this one…
We backtracked to highway 123 and headed off to Woolaroc…
Woolroc was Frank Philipp’s summer home and even then was a museum and collection…
On the way in…
One of the many statues outside the museum and this one “Thanks for the rain”… appropriate for today as it was rainy all day long…
The museum is pretty nice and has a lot of Indian items in it as well as some huge gun collections… I t
