It was a “Road Trip” or “Field Trip” day for us. Started early from Midland… passing to the west and on our way we passed through places like “notrees, TX” and Kermit and Mentone… look that up for amazement. We ended up about 20 miles south of Carlsbad NM… on our first location…
Wonderful scenery…. if you like sand, sage, and nothing… I don’t mind it as there really is a lot to look at if you look close…
We even crossed the real Pecos River… don’t look like much here but is the Pecos river. Just above Red Bluff reservoir it looks like this.
Below that reservoir it is dry…
During our visit in this area I spotted these two strange birds…
I could also see the Guadalupe Mountains and somewhere in that direction is the Carlsbad caverns?
Like I said we passed through Mentone… don’t blink as it will be missed
On the way back we spotted some of the “Century” plants in front of an old place…
It was in bloom too… the false story is that it only blooms once every 100 years… but actually it blooms at the end of it’s life… about 20 to 30 years and then other shoots come up from the base to replace it… read the story here: Agave Americana.
The blooms are pretty cool…
Once back in Odessa spotted this and had to show it here…
Of course the sign on the side says “I fight like a girl”… huh?
That was my day… other than the off highway roads were so rough I may not recover… just got beat to death out there…
