Yep, another boring day in the life of the retired. But first, yesterday I spent the afternoon replacing 5 sets of drawer slides. We had always wanted that the drawer slides be some of those fancy ones that were “auto-close” types…, Well, after lunch yesterday I went to Lowes and picked up 5 sets of slides and spent the rest of the afternoon replacing the 5 most used drawers in the kitchen with “auto-close” slides. At first I thought it would be a snap as all I had to do was take out the screws and replace the parts and put the screws back in… wrong!… The wholes didn’t match in the new slides to the old ones… for the back in. The front holes were ok and that helped line things up anyway… but I had to drill pilot holes for the back screws of the drawer piece and the mount on the cabinet. that took a bit of time and required some odd positions and contortions to get into the cabinet to mark and drill those hole and then put the screws back in there… but it all worked out and all 5 drawers are now auto-close when you get it to the final 3 inches… they are a bit hard to open now as opposed to the old one finger pull it now takes a bit more to get them open…
New cabinet part in place..
ready to replace the drawer part.
Today, I accomplished very little other than more cleaning and clearing… I went through a bunch of old VHS tapes… does anyone still play those things? We have a huge box of nothing but garbage recorded stuff from TV. Those are going to give away or ? what ever… they have been cluttering up my shop since we moved in and I am not messing with them anymore… they are out. I have copied to electronic most of the better movies and instruction videos and kid (Disney) stuff and it is on our server but these are just garbage.
Once I got through with that I looked at the shelves and picked out a bunch of stuff to list for sale , most of it Ham Radio stuff that someone might want? and I got it listed… already got one item sold, I think… won’t be so lucky on the others. but oh well, they are out there. I also pulled all the old 3 1/2 floppies form the shelves that didn’t have any personal stuff on them and they are in the recycle bin to be hauled off as well. I do have some 3 1/2 drives available but will have to pull down an old Ham computer that runs Windows 98 to copy them off… may do that this summer or next winter? not sure… not much of it is worth anything but some is nostalgia stuff, like my Masters papers and some ham radio stuff I kept from way back.
That about did my day, other than I turned on the Ham Radio and boy the bands were dead today… nothing heard locally from 17 meters up… some on 20 but nothing like usual… yesterday I was hitting some good contacts, picked up Singapore but today… nothing so it kept me focused in the cleaning.
