I didn’t get this posted last night cause I got off on some other things to do… but yesterday was a slow day.
I got my 3+ mile walk in, felt pretty good once I got going but sure didn’t feel like it at the start. On my hike I spotted that single turkey again.. She was over in the Boulder Creek Housing subdivision. moving off to the east? Guess she has no fear of the pets or people and has some decent cover to hide in. Which brings up a comment about the differences in people thought and how some can be easily moved through fear or ?
One of our “bigger” neighbors and I say bigger because they own a much larger tract of land, feels that it needs to be cleared of all cedars, and most of the trees… “this helps keep the varmints down”… Well yes it moved the coyotes and fox out cause there is not place to hide but it also moved all the turkey, deer and other wildlife out, along with a huge amount of smaller nesting birds as well… This same neighbor has hit on the new neighbor between us with the idea that they needed to get all the cedars cut out and it went so far as she was contacting the developer of our division to see if he would cut out all his trees as well (across the fence from the new neighbor)… The comment I hear is they have 4 young kids and they need to keep the snakes and other varmints away from them… Protection is one thing, driving all the wildlife that these kids could see out is pushing the envelope… A lot of folks prefer to have a few trees and “secluded” home sites as witnessed by the fact that the Boulder Creek division is a higher dollar area and it is pretty much secluded for the larger houses… Anyway, the new neighbor hired a clearing group to cut out the remaining cedars form the back of their property along with any small shrubs as well… The previous owner had , on purpose, left those shrubs there as a divider to his and the other property… as well as it gave a small area for some wildlife to live but most of that is gone now… I guess I should say it is not my problem but they sure need to stay on their side of the fence… I like my barriers and screens, although I keep it ways off form the house so I can keep those varmints at a distance… and I need to do a bit more cleaning out of some of the shrubs as well but not clear cutting…
On a similar note, my main activity yesterday was to select out some stone for the step wall and clean up that pile I had save years ago… many will be hauled to the drainage ditch and I will place them in there to line the bottom where it is bare and needs some controls… but that will be a long process… piece at a time.
Last night we went to the Botanical Gardens again for the free music… Tonight it was the Red Dirt Rangers. Pretty good music and larger crowd this time… in fact I think there were more people here than at the big downtown Friday night thing… paper said several hundred showed for the downtown thing… I am sure there were that many at the gardens?
That was it… slow day but I need those now that I am retired..
