Grandsons

Well the grandsons came up to visit for a few days and I have been busy.  Before they got here I captured some pictures of the “Fungus” growing in my front yard…

This was in the morning on Tuesday… then Tuesday evening..

It got bigger, but I ended up mowing it off before I got that picture, and that is another story ..

I have worked on getting the parts ready for the older ones airplane repair… well we got it fixed but it took several trips… I wanted him to do most of the fixing but for some odd reason he kept drifting off?  Anyway I got him to pretty much finish it up and we now have a new tail on this one…

Now he can take it home and hang it with the others in his room…  He needs to do it pretty quick as his little brother will be into it if he doesn’t…  We did start another one but didn’t get too far on it either… that will be for another day…

Wednesday morning I got out early and got my walk in… got back and we worked on the airplane for just a little bit… then Grandson #1 disappeared?  so I took off to mow the park and housing area entrance… The guy that was mowing moved out and it was starting to look a bit rough so I just figured I could volunteer and get it mowed this time… took me maybe 90 minutes and was back by 10:30am… so we could work on the airplane or other things…

On one of our trips to town yesterday I spotted this …

Said he needs to have his Dad fix their Jeep with Hood Lights… he said they didn’t need it…

For dinner we had Filets and fresh corn… I over cooked the steaks or they were a bit tougher than the last bunch?  as they just were a bit tough… but the corn was good.

Today they took off to go see Great Grandma and I stayed home… I had some things to work on and a project that needed some attention… I had read that the digital sound card I had could be improved (noise reduction as it is used for very weak signal radio stuff) by swapping out the power connection for the outboard USB through a 1k ohm resistor to the onboard 3.7 volt supply and use a 470 ohm resistor… I just needed a 1/4 watt 470 ohm resistor?  so I had to make a trip to Radio Shack and pick some up… The mods for the USB Signalink can be best found at: Signalink USB mods.  I didn’t try any of the other, just the power change to take the noise off from the USB connection… This was also in the latest QST…page 61… Now I had never worked with Surface Mount components before and I was not going to put one on but I had to remove the 1k one… that was easier than I figured and came right off with out ruining the board ha!… I used the full  length 470 ohm and put shrink wrap on the leads all but the very ends that I soldered to the board in the proper spots… and to my own amazement it worked… It did take a lot of noise off the low end of the receive area but I can’t tell yet that I have that much more receive but the bands are crappy so more testing is in order…

On my way into town today to get the parts, and dump some recycle glass at the recycle center I caught this… we had a huge set of visitors today?

Our normal population was about 4 to 6 and today… we had all these and maybe 10 more flying around… which is good they can eat all the bugs here they want… and if they can come in force they will move the sparrows out… maybe.

I also got behind this guy that had his load a bit …. lopsided?

I got around where I could see and the passenger side track was just 6 inches off the pavement… he did have flags on it?  guess he had to load it that way cause it was way wider than the trailer? but I would hat to have one that lopsided and a bounce or two would cause it to drag pavement?  but that is not my problem..

This afternoon while working on my electronic project I spotted a “Fungus” in my back yard… it is still a ball?  maybe tomorrow it will be a stool?

Oh and this afternoon, again no pictures and I really should have… but the older Grandson was taught how to drive the mower after he got back from Great Grandmas house… I gave some instruction , and let him practice some then let him mow some… he has a really hard time keeping track of where he has been and what is to be mowed next but have to give him the credit as the area he was in had been mowed last week so it was not very tall and harder to tell where he had been?   But more practice and he can come mow for me…

His mom did get a picture of the action…

We did attempt to do a little fishing too before the mowing practice but the pond is so filled with moss near the shore that it is hard for shore fishing people to get the hook out past and dragging it in it gets all tangled up in the moss so I may have to try and do something about that?  He suggested a boat?  I may try treating the moss or dragging it first? will have to see what comes of that.

That has been my last few days… keeping up with the kids, dogs and cat…
