Being retired?

This morning I contemplated the projects I had on the list… which to work on, which to finish?  But first, since it was raining and wet… I needed a hair cut so called and he had open slots this morning so ran down for the 9 AM slot… get it over with…

Captured these on the way to the barber…

Ever wonder what “past your prime” is…? this kind of explains that…

Had a nice visit with the barber, talked about having to “adopt” family pets as he has taken in his daughters dog…

Once I got the haircut I came back home and decided that I should finish up the “hole” cover for the downstairs closet… that hole has been there for ???? 5 years now… I had gotten the trim board the other day and got it cut yesterday and glued onto the piece of sheetrock that came out of the hole… and the trim would make it look a bit better when put back… so today , I got it finished up and put in place..

We had to cut that hole to get a phone line run in as things didn’t come into the house like it was wired up?  so with the alarm system needing to be first on the phone line we had to run an extra line to get it to the alarm back to the box then into the internet router and modem…anyway it also is a good spot for the pest guys to get in and put bug dust once a year… it sure helps keep down the bugs… we haven’t had any real problems since we hired it done and they come once a month and when ever we have other problems… don’t have to fight back the spiders and stuff all the time… Anyway the hole is now covered, not real pretty but hey, it is in the closet ceiling… a bit of paint and it will all blend in… and still easy to take out when we need to open it up…

It seems that these days, my being retired puts a whole different light on my projects.  I can start off to get one done but before I get it done I may end up working on something else.  My priorities are a lot different now.  I am not in that rush that I “must” get it done before I go back to work… now I pretty much get done things that need to be done but also look at the enjoyment factor in doing the project… short answer, if I don’t enjoy it, or see some immediate benefit,  I may not do it… My case in point is that the front porch took me over a week to finish… it needed doing and a few years ago it would have been done in a couple of days… but now… it wasn’t a big push so I worked on other things in between… mowing, (easier to ride a mower than swing a paint brush)… Another one of those was the plan to get on the power controllers I am building… I started to do that and looked up at the winch for the jeep top, then thought, hey I need to pull the top and put the mesh top on for summer stuff, since it is cool out right now… so I moved the mower and backed the Jeep into the shop and proceeded to pull the top but this top is not like my old one and the cross-bars don’t fit right… that meant I had to rig up something to lift the top enough to get the mesh top on and let the hard top back down till I can get the cross member on the winch “improvised’ to fit my new hard top… Anyway a bit of a strap would work for now but wouldn’t be able to get it any higher than the roll bar due to the way I had to run it… but if I had run it front to back I probably could have lifted it all the way off… of course that was an after thought.  Anyway, I got the top up…

and got the mesh top put in place and tied down then I put the hard top back on for now… I think I will put some more bolts in the cross bar at the points where the top has slots and get some big body washers for those slots to lift the top?  Need to gather the parts and see how it will look…

The mesh top will help keep the sun down but yet be open air enough to enjoy the cooler days… and it doesn’t have to be removed like my old soft top on the old jeep… it was either Hard top, Soft top or no top… This is an in between step since the new jeeps have removable front parts… like the old “T” tops…

A few days ago I posted one picture of our Mushrooms… well here is the comparison of that big ball…

The ball is here….

Then it popped out…! bit time

Didn’t have a pencil so there is my finger in size comparison… maybe one of the biggest I have seen here… ?

Being retired that is how my days go… head out to get one thing done then see something and change my mine and work on something else then in the process of that I may come up with a totally different project to work on and forgot the first one till I get back and see the tools or something that I had prepared for the first and wonder whey I didn’t get it done?  oh yea the other stuff was more interesting or important at the time…

That was my day… and the sun did come out this evening about 4:30… I finished up the top swap at about 6 pm… just in time to test out the new top on a trip to town for pizza…

An interesting day even if I didn’t do much …
