Got my early morning walk in…
I know it looks weird at first but was the best angle to actually get the web… Seems the spiders are pretty busy at night… put it up and take it down daily … lot of work goes into one of those and it was plenty big… guessing about 2 to 3 ft. tall here…
The walk start was pretty much in the fog..
not extremely thick but hey it is August 1st? looks more like October? and the temps were plenty cool enough for a walk… could be cooler but for August… liking the 60’s for a start…
Got back and loaded up some more STUFF to haul off and donate… had some old suitcases we never use, and some other stuff from the shop that needs to go… got back from unloading all that and put in a little work on the power controller project… got a few parts soldered into the board… at this rate… will have them done by late next year… ha!.
I got ready to head in for lunch and found another humming bird in the garage… I even had the door down some but not closed and this one slipped in at the upper crack? they fly head up and cant see an opening that is below them so they buzz around at the ceiling till they give out and land then it is off again… till I catch them and get them out or ? This one I caught… I had put together a minnow net and extension handle several years ago and have gotten to the point I can catch them but it takes awhile and usually a few dizzy spins in the garage looking up to get it done… sorry too busy for pictures and too dizzy… anyway got that one out… that makes 3 this past week… the door needs to stay down for another month or more… They fight over the two feeders we have , one on the front of the house and one on the back and they are buzzing around the house between them and end up turning that last corner too sharp and in they come… a few weeks ago I was lamenting that they had all moved on north early on since I had not seen them much in July but the last week they are all back and draining the feeders pretty fast… so there are more than I had figures out there…
Got in for lunch a bit late because once I got the hummer out I noticed the jeep antennas was still loose… either I didn’t get a lock washer or they are supposed to put thread lock on it or something anyway my radio antennas keeps working loose… thought all the fancy odd weave on the out side would automatically keep it tight but seems it goes the other way… poor design? I went into the shop, pulled a lock washer out of the washer container and put it on the antenna. Now to see if it h olds any better?
Nice to have a really good selection of washers and nuts to dig through at times… but wonder how much money I have wasted in that collections that gets little use? Another complaint that most places now make you buy 3 if you need one… look at 9 volt batteries or hardware packages… you can get it in singles but pay the double price… so sometimes it is cheaper to get a package over the singles? Just troubling that it works that way…
Once back from lunch it was time to get on another small project that I had been putting off for weeks… I needed to do the “weed-eating” before the edges crowded in on us… I got most of it knocked down… have some on the back of the dam that is too steep to work with the wheeled trimmer and may be too big and too steep for the hand held but will get to it eventually…
It truly is too steep for the mower… I know the picture looks like you could just drive off but get up there and it is a 45 or greater angle down… and I don’t have seat belts or a roll bar on my mower so we mow the edges and angles and hope to get the rest , “Someday”…
Got all this knocked out and the area around the blackberry bushes and a bunch of other places… 4 hours worth and I was pooped at the end… came in and took a short nap when I sat down in the chair… luckily it was dog and cat feeding time so my nap was about 15 minutes… ha! they seemed to be noticing I was not moving toward the feed quick enough so they all came to visit…
After supper I spent a little time listening on the radio for some of those needed contacts but heard none so gave up and came in for a shower… probably will go back out and check it again as tonight will be a good night due to recent sun spot activity… well good on the very low band and horrible on the upper but I need some on 80 meters so will be looking there for the missing…
