Today the kids wanted to make the drive up to Victor and see the Aspen color. But first they had a Dr. Appointment and other stuff so Sherrie and I struck out early for downtown… breakfast on our mind… We had read the reports that the Green Chili was best at the “Kings Chef Diner”… there are two down town. one really small and the bigger one a few blocks north… we aimed for the little diner…
Unique places with unique color as well… We got out burrito… and had to split it…
There Green Chili is less the pork you normally get out here and has a Habanero kick to it… and it did kick…
We then made the rounds of some yarn shops in Old Colorado City and Sherrie picked up a small amount for special booties… Then back to the house, gathered up the kids and headed off so they could have a really late breakfast and we had lunch… no bragging here as it was Village Inn… but they like it…
We then headed off to the road behind the Broadmoor and zoo… and Gold Camp Road…
We got to see a lot of color and a substantial amount of Orange aspen leaves, something we very seldom see as most just go yellow…
mostly yellow here but some orange in the mix..
That one was flaming orange… don’t think I ever saw one like that… and wish the sun had been out more… but we were in rain and out and then in snow, and sleet and hail before we got to Victor…
ice building up on the windshield here…
It was raining in Victor so I was driving and not picture taking… same thing in Cripple Creek, but we did stop at the Rec Center for the toilets and a rest… little one was hungry and not liking the idea of eating on the move… on the way out of Cripple Creek the clouds were breaking and had some distant contrast here…
As we came around the corner out of Cripple Creek we got the back side of Pike Peak and the snow or ice? that we had been through on the south side was showing on the west side of the mountain… it was more vivid in person than the pictures show?
It was a fairly rapid drive on back form there to the Springs… made one stop in the springs to get some more really vivid sunset photo…
Then on to the house, unload… and rest up… I had left over for dinner, Sherrie was still feeling the pains of the onions from lunch… for some reason this time they had set her off…
So it was a nice day, vivid shows of color, even if it was cloudy a lot and rained, and snowed and other things…
