Well, got home tonight from a long trip – out, back is about it… The decision was made last night to make a quick return home to limit used vacation days if we didn’t need to use them up… so , early this morning we packed it up and came home… on the way home we did make a few stops…
Had to make a short drive through Flagler… We lived there once… temporary as it was… tried living in the cam p trailer but the cold of winter and wind knocking out the flame on the heater stopped that pretty quick so we moved to a house… well, that is a loose term for this place…
We almost bought a lot on the north end of town and built a house… but conditions changed and I got a transfer to another choice location before that happened…
My wife said she went to this library when we were in that little house and I think living in the trailer there…
We had a house in Lamar that wasn’t selling so moving was not something we could do till that happened. We were in Flagler during the week and Lamar on weekends for about 9 months then I got a transferred to Springfield ( I commuted to there for over a year)…
As we moved on into Kansas we stopped at the first rest stop and barely could hang on… it is on a hill top and the wind was blowing about 40mph… didn’t take long to appreciate all that but they have a nice visitor center and clean restrooms…
I bought gas in Colby Ks and get in behind this guy when leaving town?
The spot on my windshield is not covering up the first of his title? not sure what it was but guessing??? not sure I want to know…
It was lunch time about Ellis so we stopped at the Subway there… been there before… but this time we ventured into town before leaving… from the interstate you see …. nothing… but there is a pretty nice , old town down the hill and a real nice RV park on the little lake they have… checked that out and may have to try it some day and visit some of the museums there… they have at least 3 museums…
The first was >>???? The Bukovina Society of America??? had to look that one up…
yes it used to be a Congregational church but now has a sign proclaiming the Bukovina Museum… or something like that…
of course western Kansas is pretty big Catholic country… lots and lots of big Catholic churches out there… including this one from the RV park across the little lake…
This may be the claim to fame of Ellis – boyhood home of Walter P Chrysler… and his museum there.
And they had a Railroad Museum… but from watching the signs, so did every town on the south side of I-70 from the Colorado border to Salina…? they all have a railroad museum of some kind… one is the ‘”Orphans railroad museum”? it was advertised about Wilson but I believe it is in Concordia… north of Salina… anyway lot of railroad stuff in central KS… lots of museums in KS anyway. Way to many to see them all…
I did notice an odd combination… well maybe not… in Ellis..
We saw what we could being Sunday and most things closed… so it was hit the road and get on home…
We got home about 5:30… I had a radio contact to make… my regular Sunday contact… then it was shower, and off to bed… got more aches and pains than I care to count…
