We did get up in time to catch the shuttle down to the train… got there and we were way early… although not a lot as people started showing up about 5 minutes after we did. We got checked in, checked the bags to the train and then waited in the waiting room…
Across from the train station and hey , it is 5 AM… and the sun has been up for about an hour… although it is slow to really light up… it just never gets dark here during June and July… or parts of it anyway…
The crowd in the station got a bit thick… but we made it…
Whew, finally letting us get out and on board… We were too late to get a domed car ticket… but ours was ok… we could see most of what we wanted to…
Still happy at this point even though we had only gotten 5 hours sleep in the past 2 days…
It was low tide for the turnagain arm… so lots and lots of mud flats… I remember back in the long ago… when we were here before, that some of these were filled with Bald Eagles fishing but we were here earlier back then and I suspect they are closer to the nests now with young ones to feed…?
Just a view of the clouds hanging on the mountains out of Anchorage…
See where the drains in the mud flats are…
One old glacier valley that was filled by one of the previous earth quakes… shook the Jell-O out and filled it up… now a bog or sorts..
Since we had driven the road to Seward, years ago, and the train ride was recommended as you go places the road doesn’t we did enjoy it… saw a few glaciers we didn’t see form the highway and some really unusually cloud systems hanging on the peaks…
Tunnels in the snow from water melt coming on through…
An abundance of water falls…
The front of the train passing a curve and the glacier in the background… amazing sites…
how about a double or triple reflection lake…? another one of those just amazing things…
We went straight to the ship from the train… checked in… got lunch on the ship and shortly were allowed to find out cabin… so we could nap and rest up… ship left port at about 8pm… long sail to Hubbard Glacier…
The harbor at Seward… really a pretty big harbor for a very small town… back in our first trip up we took the Kenai Fjords tour from here and that was amazing as well… since we had done it we skipped it this time but saw them going out…
pulling out into the open and yes it is probably 9pm…
As we sail out I spot that house on the way far shore… there were several more to the left… but this one…
Wow!… what a view and what a place to be… suspect no roads, only access by boat or plane… I would love to have a house like that… but maybe down in Colorado or a bit further south… ? although it seldom gets horrible cold here next to the water… just wet all the time…
So ended day two… sailing along and being rocked to sleep..
