The days got earlier as we had to be ready to get out at 7:30 this morning… but we weren’t docked… we had to take “Tender boats” in for this stop.
(next year they will have a pier and dock for the boats = 14 million project and then will have to spend 2 mill to fix the road out… )
The old cannery that is no more but now houses a lot of shops, a museum of the old cannery equipment and restaurant..
As we get there the native dancers are there to greet the visitors…
We did the tram ride, and as we start we hear the noise of the zip line sending the harnesses back to the top.
The Tram was ok but not great… went through the rain forest the driver talked a bit about things there and we got to walk on the north beach then back…
We saw some eagles and this deer… it is the size of a small antelope… and not too scared…
Walking the rocky beach looking for special shells and rocks… we did find some rocks that were interesting..
Some of them were totally covered by clams, and barnacles… black clams…
And not just little ones but some rally big ones too…
No I didn’t drag them home… pictures this time are enough for me but we did pick up a couple of small odd shaped ones..
On our way back in we could hear the zip line… kind of like a jet engine a distance off… looking up we could see one group on the way down… look close as this is supposed to be the longest zip and pretty high up as well…45 minutes to drive up in the bus and 90 seconds to ride down… as an after the fact and knowing a lot more we should of done the zip line and the whale watch here… the whale watchers got a real show and they say it is normal here to see at least one in the city harbor “bubble netting” and coming out of the water… that would have been cool…
At the end of the tram ride we moved to the tribal show building and took in the native dance show… it was interesting but lacked some good chorography…
While we waited for show time this one gave us some info on the island and other things they have going on…
They only had about 7 dancers but at the end they invited any that wanted to join them and we could get pictures then… It was a great story they told and it all fit nicely into the tour…
We then visited the cannery and shops and the museum… in all the places there are museums and most are free that are great… for very small items…
I had never seen a “Northern” radio…
Once done with out short tour and down the board walk… we headed back on the tender and back to the ship… we didn’t go to town but from all accounts it wasn’t much anyway… I missed the zip line – we should have tried it even if we don’t like doing such things as it is the longest at present and what a ride…
From the ship to Hoonah the town… and some kayakers on their way back in…
