Well didn’t get anything put in last night… guess I was just real lazy? or didn’t get to it. Anyway we got around Friday morning in Clayton and found that the Refrig was out? nothing seemed to work. I spent a few minutes trying to find a reason but figured we could get on down the road and would work on it when we get to the next point in the travel. So on we went. Or almost. I couldn’t get the rear watch camera to work. I use that to watch the trailing jeep… oh well guess we didn’t need that either… We had breakfast at the rabbit ears café on recommendation from the camp host and it was pretty good.. Got a “Green Chili” smothered breakfast burrito and a home made cinnamon roll.
Now I didn’t eat that whole thing, it was huge and glad we split it but… ooops cleaned up before I remembered I had a camera… ha! anyway hadn’t wiped out the roll yet… ha!
So this was the place and they do have home made green chili.
We pulled out and about 5 miles out I notice that the tire monitor for the jeep were not working… I have a TPMS that monitors both vehicles for low air. So I stopped and checked but the tires were ok so figure the old units on the jeep may be way down on power or?
Just one problem after another…huh?
On our route through the almost nothing between Clayton and Raton I got this old memory or a house..
Maybe it was a old school or maybe it needed that tower? not sure , just not a usual house in the vast country out here?
We didn’t stop in Raton as the clouds were coming back in and it was misting now… and cold. actually it was the first time we have been out in the motorhome that we needed to turn the heat on while driving? Hey it worked! Over the pass and through the woods on to Colorado we go. Also whipped right on through Trinidad with out a stop but about Walsenburg it was noon? So we stopped to reduce the growl level…
Nothing fancy , went to the Carl’s there and this was across the street. Also on the way up and over the hill north out of Walsenburg passed the miner..
Should have stopped and read up on that guy but we wanted to move on…
We got to our camp spot and parked it … then I got to work on the refrig to see if it was something I could fix or at least narrow down for repair or replace… even got a bag of ice as I figured it would a big deal but once I got into it… checking voltages I found a loose wire? hum…
Hooked it back up to where it appears it should go and poof it works… got real lucky there that was only a loose wire preventing it from working.
The red wires on the left were all loose and one pulled out…
With that fixed we went out for pizza at a local Papa’s pizza place… good pizza and again didn’t get the pictures… sorry… was just so damn happy that it was not the total replacement of the refrig that forgot.
Today the plan was to get to Old Colorado City for the big celebration there Territory Days… and we made it… whew there were loads of people there..
This guy was interested in what was going on in front of him…
Of course the big thing is loads of ?art? stuff and junk that you just can’t live with out… Rock animals? oh boy.
and rock bugs…
This thing takes up the main street there and is several blocks long… damn long crowed walk down and back but you do what you got to do…
Interesting how they decorate the walls in some places…
One reason for the visit here was to take in the Brule’ music and Indian dancers. It was a pretty good show… unfortunately I didn’t get close enough for good pictures..There are plenty on youtube and other places.
This guy was there too…
If your selling furs I guess you dress the part
He had three vintage rifles and he was explaining to this kid all about the making, and dates for them and how they were different.
Now this was the vision of … When do we get out of here? He was a trooper and never got upset and did real well with all the riding, although I think he got a little too much sun…
I wasn’t sure what was going on here… oh yea, it was root beer from Woody’s…
Not sure if he had a muzzle or that was extra cover to protect him? not one of ours, just one I saw.
Ok, I had to go get some water and the place I stopped at also sold hot sauce with this definition on the wall…
Grandma got a new hat with a flower… supposed to be fold able, one blow off, and all that stuff…
I saw numerous unique individuals at this fair…
Straight out of the 70’s this guy… bronco shoes… 70’s tight shorts, and that hat… I think I had one back in 74?
Annie get your guy… all dressed up and waiting on the show…
Now this guy is good and that is how you fix an old door but I can’t afford the price. zoomed in it says $1200
We were fortunate that it didn’t come up a big rain while we were there… maybe did later in the day?
For our evening entertainment we made the balloon thing at the Abby in Canon City… looks like that had a great day too but we got there pretty late , just for the evening balloon glow..
Now they had food vendors all around and some still open during the evening show but I am not sure of this one?
Out here they generally call it oysters of one vintage or another but ? ouch! sorry for the monkey..
More fun days had by all… as we take it all in.
