Well we have still been busy here. Lots of travel to and from and grandson setting… ha! But Sunday I took a little time away, let Grandma do the setting and I hit a couple of my favorite activities… A Hamfest and a Car show… all in the same day? How great is that.
I got up reasonably early and took off for the Jefferson County fair ground where the Denver Ham Club had their hamfest from 8 to 3… It was a small fest, reasonably well attended and when I got there at 9am they were already hauling stuff out. So I would say that there are buyers in Denver as I saw a lot of “old” equipment being taken out… similar to some stuff I had tried to sell in Claremore but got no lookers. Interesting little gathering and short enough to either get it or not… I chose not as there was nothing that I couldn’t live with out…
A reasonably small venue with good crowds and some selling going on…
Before my Amateur radio days I did some CB and I had one of these things… big box , small power, lots of code words… ha! (Remember that was about 40 years ago)…
When I decided to move up to ham radio my first receiver was a unit just like this. What a huge box, “Boat Anchor”…
That was about all that I found of interest there. Did find a couple of hams I sort of knew and some that I met along the way. but by 11am I was on my way back to See if Grandma was doing ok… We had a bit of lunch and I was then off again to take in the other item of interest… the Car show at Bandimere Speedway… This was the weekend of the KBPI Rock N Roll Car show.
It is billed as the areas biggest and certainly is a big show but it is so inclusive that I was not impressed. Inclusive = every class of car, truck, 4X4. etc. was there, new, old, classic, etc.… mostly every one that thought they had a fast and nice car or truck was there… I generally prefer the older classis and the Street Rods, muscle cars and this had way too much of the other stuff but still was interesting and had a few extras thrown in… to be shown later. ha!
I did capture a few pictures of some of my favorites there…
Way off behind and left of the hood ornament is my daughters house… there were several nomads and 2 door 5’s wagons…
This had a fantastic paint job and big power under that hood..
This was an even more interesting pain job… multi colors of orange/red depending on position in the sun.
An original, real Mater tow truck… ha!
Really nice Mustang fastback… good color too…
What can you say… original…
Chop, Drop and Roll…
the next car had for seats like this…
Real Rat Rod style… but big under the hood..
Nice truck here… but the real object is next to that…
Real 56 nomad wagon… most of the items are original (not tires and wheels, ha! but talked to the owner and the engine is original or at least date correct. and not really visible here but it just got back from the Hotrod Power tour of 2016… 3500 miles and he made the “long haul” in this car… I would be a bit afraid to get it out on the road as he said he had about $175000 invested in the total rebuild…
After that I figure this may be more in my price range… although not size range… ha!
Ok there was a ‘Roadrunner” section as well as a mustang section and even a Subaru section but this Roadrunner had the details down real good…
Now this I think is all show? or maybe not? just not sure… didn’t see it fire up… but look at the inside..
Most of it from the cockpit of some plane, maybe where the engine came from?
I like orange and this was truly done right… although fiberglass in several spots and not real metal…
Mining Moonshine – Leadville? sure?
The picture does not do justice this was so deep in a Black flake it was amazing… likely $20000 in paint or more?
Now this was for sale and it is Orange… old style and figure it had the 304 V8 or maybe a bit bigger?
Strange, I only saw maybe 3 or 4 El Caminos at this show but this 69 was my choice , although not accurate, at least I don’t think so, it had a 396 in it… muscle deluxe
Nice sun shades…
I think this might have been my favorite… like the tag too as well as it did have air but way out of my price range…
Note the show had a Burnout competition as well as grudge match comps and various other things during the day… this was a real burnout… wasting $300 or $500 dollar tires? but gets some crowd approval…
In a later post I will have a burnout I had never seen… wait for it…
