Well, It has been a long time since I made an update. Lots of things going on and lot of things I just can’t say much about. Suffice to say, just when you think things are going right you get a sucker punch. That was how our summer went.
We have spent much of our summer and fall in Colorado. Grandma has too much interest out here so we keep coming back. On our most recent trip home a few weeks ago we were doing well on I-70 in western Kansas but at one point it became obvious that the road crews must have had a problem when they did the resurface recently. I guess it is a test to keep you from getting white line fever…
There were many miles of the center line being all over the place from left of the joint to right of the joint to angled in all directions.
We got home and had 10 days of Doctors, bills, cleanup, mowing, ( oh wait I had all that she was knitting). Anyway we got some rest, some things fixed and running, I thought, and then turned right around and headed back with appointments out here to take care of. We also made a family reunion in the big city of Goltry. The family in question was actually from Jet-Nash but some of them are in Goltry so they found a place.
The place was the old Gym for the old school in Goltry. I remember way back playing BB in that place. No I wasn’t any good, I was a bench warmer but I remember we did win one game here not sure about any others.
While we were waiting on the meal and a few other things I got out and made a small walk up the 3 blocks of main street and captured the above photo. Remember all the little towns had a car dealer or at least a repair shop and I am sure that was what this was before it was just a tire shop then just a shop. That old gas pump is worth more than one would think and it is still in decent shape, being covered and all.
I also found a great little fix-er-upper in that town and the price is really reasonable… if you want to live out and away or on main street for that matter…
yea it needs a little more clean up before the fixing but…
The price is low enough I might could afford it?
Saw a lot of wife’s family at the reunion and did a little visiting and then back home to get things ready for the return trip to Colorado. So last Sunday we headed back out to make our various appointments here. on the way, I captured this guy running on I-70.
A Tonka Truck. not sure I want Yellow but ? would guess he had been up for a weekend game or something?
First up was Monday and another 10 to 20 houses to look at. Yes, we are in the process of locating another home out here so we can be much closer to Grandsons and enjoy the cool summers and ? maybe more? So far I can say most of what has been in our price range is way over priced for crap that is way old and needs plenty to just get it fixed up. I guess you pay for the location way more out here? Well we made our tour of homes again and actually did find one that needs a few updates but was so well maintained ( from appearance) that we put in an offer and ended up a few days ago with a contract on another house. We keep saying we need to downsize and every time we upsize. I am hoping that trend reverses soon? Can’t say much more about it other than really nice place not as much yard and we didn’t end up with the mountain view we had hoped for but they are out there just a little ways. Strange thing, we had gone past this house several times and past it up as it didn’t look like the kind of place we would like… Most of it is hidden, in fact 80% of it is hidden unless you get right up to it. Even the listing front was not what would draw you in but good thing we change and added it to the list.
From the front… you don’t see anything…
From the back it starts to fill out to be very big.
We have not gotten past all the hurdles yet but we don’t see too many things lacking… other than money, HA! So as not to jinx it or say much more till it become a bigger reality I will stop here..
One other thing that came up was an old friend called me Saturday before we came back out. We had worked for the same company about the same amount of time and spent the last 12 years traveling together in our commutes to Algeria. He was wondering if we were in Colorado as he was here staying whit his Mother in Law for a few days while his Sister-in-law and husband were at funerals back in Kansas. Well sure enough I would be back out so we set up a meet for Tuesday before he headed home and we had a great visit. He got to meet my wife and she him and we talked for maybe 4 hours. Thank you Mr. Rahim for the timing and the chance to visit. We will for sure have to do it again as likely you will be out here multiple times in the future.
So now we are back in Lakewood, and will have to stay a few days while daughter gets some tests and a small procedure done first of next week. We are just the roving grandparents.
