A move and new things to be thankful for.

Sometimes things happen in a hurry and some times things are really slow.  I know I haven’t updated the posts in some time and most of that was because we were busy with a few other things and I didn’t want to jinx some things we had going on.  We have been looking to find a place back out in Colorado since all the grandkids are out here.  Grandma needs a fix every week or so.  In that direction we have been looking at places ever since last May… actually we have been looking for a couple of years but it got serious in May with both of us being retired and the opportunity to move being what it is.  We had built that house in Stillwater as our retirement house but no matter what you think a good plan is, it can change pretty quick.  In all of our looking we had not found much of anything that would suit our needs and wants and still be a good piece of property.  We had looked at so many way over priced, poorly built, or really old and never updated properties we were about to give up and build again… We would have built about the same thing we have in Stillwater when we found a good property but just by a late happening we went back to look at a house we have passed over several times because the front didn’t look like much and it was not really the property we wanted but once we got inside it was impressive enough and built so much better than what we had been seeing we decided to offer on it.

We offered they countered and then we countered after the inspection as much of what is in the house is 16 years old, never updated or renewed but so well maintained and had been of such quality when it was built that it was impressive.  We came to a mutual price agreement knowing we will have to do some modernization and replacements but it is not something that is require in a hurry.  The paperwork took forever due to the governments new requirements and we finally had a closing date of …… 11/23/2016.  Yep day before Thanksgiving.  Who the hell buys or sells on the day before a holiday?  We did.    We now own a way too big house in Monument Colorado.  Damn thing is in the snowiest place on the front range! I should go in for mental evaluation on this one… but oh well…

We had driving by this place numerous times on our way to and from other houses in the area and it sure didn’t look too impressive…

But it had a nice “family room-kitchen area and a large master bedroom all on the main floor with almost no steps to and from..

Then it had almost a whole other home downstairs with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths there that we will rent out to our son and grandson while he works through a divorce.

It is on a nice size lot… not as big as I wanted and has some damn HOA requirements but I think I can still locate enough of my antennas in the trees (hidden) that I can remain active on the radio.

Anyway we closed after a 1.5 hour signing and closing session at the Title office about 10:30 on the 23rd… I got the keys came back and unloaded some few things we had put in the day before, took Sherrie back to son’s house as he was dealing with the movers to get his stuff to the new house on the 23rd… I got back at 1pm and in 5 minutes I had the cable/internet guy show up to install our link to the world, then the neighbors across the street came over to introduce? Don’t have that happen much anymore, then by 2pm the security guy showed up to link the security system up and get all the doors and windows located into the security system and then the truck shows with son’s stuff to go downstairs and it was a whirlwind of activity for about 6 hours.  All this needed to be done because in my families infinite wisdom they had planned to go ahead and have Thanksgiving in the new house, even if we couldn’t find the stuff we need for eating or sitting or anything else… ha!

Knowing all this before hand I had bought a “precooked’ Cajun Turkey from Popeye’s and I must say it was pretty good… wasn’t betting on that but turned out ok… also got a small precooked brisket so we wouldn’t go hungry… and everyone , including some guest friends of Sean and Amy’s came down as they have no family around either.  We had a really nice small family gathering and way too much food but we are thankful that our first day in the house was for family and we all enjoyed it.

yep we have been in the house for less than 24 hours but have some furniture downstairs and a TV so they were prepping before we eat…

Still a bunch of stuff in the garage and likely won’t all be going in the house… we need to sell more junk… or rather my son does…

The turkey… I might use the wood smoker next time to reheat one of these… but this one was not too back as it came out from the reheat..

Everyone loading up , picking what they like and what they don’t and suspect we all had more than enough… other than the kids they all wanted to play more, eat less…

We didn’t have much for the living room furniture… I had ordered a couple of zero gravity loungers and we had several folding chairs and that is our new living room set up…

Now we are all trying to recover… but just think we went from one house to another house, moved, did some fixing of a big meal, enjoyed all that in less than 24 hours…

Note: I don’t want to do it again… I like to have time to prepare and be ready but it did all turn out ok…

Life is good… Family is good… and we were pretty much all together on this one.

I hope that everyone else had a great holiday, didn’t over eat like I did, and has more blessing in there life than they can count…
