Well, we got to Lakewood yesterday afternoon to do our agreed “Grandson watch”… That actually turns into go here, go there, go everywhere, with little in between. Not a fun thing for old people… It started out about right today… Everyone was up in plenty of time to make the first round of appointments although I had a little trouble getting GS#2 in his car seat. fighting the straps that were twisted and his in-attention to get in his seat when put in the vehicle… drags out the time. We got on the road in plenty of time but about a mile down the road Grandma asks GS#1 if he remembered his project…oooops U-turn and back to the house to gather up the project which put us at a point of …”almost late”… all the other parents but 1 had dropped them off and the crossing guard was gone but my watch said exactly 9AM… as he raced to the door… guess he made it as we didn’t get note about tardy arrival? or at least he didn’t give it to us?
We then raced 6 miles south to drop off GS#2 at his morning pre-school and when he got inside (as relayed to me by grandma), he started crying that he didn’t want to stay and that caused another boy to cry and ??? well we dumped and ran… We hadn’t been fortunate enough to get breakfast before so we headed on to a reasonable fast-food location and ordered up what we wanted… but they had a little problem of either understanding or comprehending? Might be the same thing? Some how the biscuits and gravy turned into an Oreo Malt? My only explanation is that the buttons on the order machine might be close together? We got that straightened out and had a late breakfast… I guess you can call it a Brunch as we then didn’t have a lunch and went way on down to Lupper (after hockey)…
We got to the house, sat a little then started the back track to pick up GS#2 at noon… got him in and back to the house for his lunch and he was being very problematic… Pawpaw has a short fuse with children that think they are going to get their way and after the 3rd warning he gets mean… at that point GS#2 figured maybe he should go take a nap instead of screaming and throwing a fit… and he didn’t need it at all because he went down at 2pm and didn’t budge till nearly 5pm… in between I had made a run back and picked up GS#3 at 3:30 and had him home… but not for long because at 5 we were gathering up Hockey stuff and left the house at 5:15 pm for the Hockey arena. He has practice twice or 3 times a week and games on ? Saturday’s or Sundays or when ever.
Once there he came running back out of the locker with “I am missing an elbow pad” not much to do then but he borrowed one from the area stash and went on with his practice. At which point I get a text that Green Mountain was on fire. The kids house is on the south side of Green Mountain in Lakewood and the wind was out of the north? oh boy… googled it up and found that it looked really bad and they had evacuated some on the north east side of the mountain. From the arena I could see a red glow to the NW but not the fire, although you could smell the brush smoke in the air. When it was nearly over and we were almost home we could see nothing from the road we took. I still could not figure out if the winds were from the north how it curved and ran east and died out that quick. We had 25 mph winds here so that could have spread it way down into the neighborhoods.
Here was a TV timelapse of the proceeding
Anyway that is our Monday and I sure hope things slow down a bit for Tuesday…
