2020 Bahamas Cruise–Day4

Ok this is mis-leading as I can see confusion… this is actually day 2 of the cruise but day 4 of the trip… Yes odd but we started travel on Sunday… got on the boat Monday and left port Monday evening… Tuesday was an all day at sea and today was the first stop at the private island… so actually it is the second say of the cruise… 3rd day on the boat but 4th day of our trip… so are you even more confused now?  I hope so.

Since it is a private island thing they do not have a shore. or place for the big boats to dock so we have to take a “water taxi” or what ever to the shore..

From our view the island was not much although it had more than was visible… but still mostly just a beach…

1-NIK_1702

The shuttles were filling up.  Most people just wanted to hit the beach… although there were some things at the beach…

As you clear around the ship there was some structures on the beach.

No idea why it is Ft San Salvador?  but this is where you enter from the shuttle boats.

Once inside that point, which there is not passport check, even thought it is a different country… you can get in fine… getting out you need and ID?  go figure..

Inside there were people all looking for their particular attraction… a lot of them in some form of “partial” dress.  not sure why you wear a see through cover?

My first stop…

1-NIK_1726

Didn’t want to waste the opportunity to take relief so found the first men’s room over there in the corner…

As I am milling around the interior square that is lined on one side by the vendors and the other has the excursion opening and the way out behind them… I noticed a tower… yep a church bell?

1-NIK_1738

I did make a short trip down that way and found a small church… open and waiting.

1-NIK_1743

By open I mean it is pretty open… limited pews so the 45 inhabitants that stay here must not use this church much… or maybe it is for visitors?

1-NIK_1727

They had a pretty nice fountain in the inner courtyard… but not much for setting on the edge… ..

1-NIK_1736

everyone got checked in and then we had to wait on our turn to head off to the “Eco Lagoon” tour… hoping to see some of the wildlife and other stuff of the island… but

1-NIK_1756

we were picked up by a truck and taken to the back of the area… not too far as we pretty much walked back… and that was our ECO craft… a sort of glass bottom boat… although the well in the middle was small and the benches cramped but we made the best of that…

There were some other tours, a kayak tour in the lagoon and a ski-doo tour in the lagoon…

Once we were off the guide started to recite the training about the plants and such…

1-NIK_1789

On our way out… I thought I saw a drilling rig in the distance… I asked about it but got no answer… and on further inspection of the picture it was not a rig but a portable lighthouse…? with some of the old lighthouse (possibly) holding it up…

1-NIK_1893

you can see the big light and that it is backed up against what looked to be one of the walls and in the foreground possibly debris from a blown out lighthouse…

Well the tour was informative but less than I had expected…

1-NIK_1801

There was talk about the plants and the major tree the palm and then… original palm huts… but when I asked if they rented them out she didn’t have an answer… oh well..

1-NIK_1812

I got a picture of some starfish… but most of the pictures were hazy at best shooting through that Plexiglas that hasn’t been cleaned this year..

oh well we did see a few small fish, the grass, some various coral… and that was about it.  once back to the dock we got on the first “truck” back to the compound… Sherrie and I had pretty much seen all we needed in our walk back from the other end so we headed for the way out… and they did check out id’s and we had to wait a bit for the next ‘water taxi” to get back.  We were sent through the gate and on the way I spotted ….

1-NIK_1899

not quit a pirate ship but oh well…

1-NIK_1915

Heading out I caught this picture of the cruise ship… It is pretty big… Of course once we got back we had a visitor again..

1-NIK_1937

He looked a lot like yesterday but this time he is a bit different and hanging off the bed… not sure if he just can’t jump that far or what…

We had a late lunch – hit those taco salads again… pretty good and did a bit of resting and then the same thing but not dressed up for dinner and after dinner we went to the comedy show… well we waited a bit late and it was a normal progression… the later you go the raunchier they get… not my kind of comedy but the place was packed at 11:15 for the late show…

that ended the day at Half Moon Cay…
